Pavlik-Williams set for Oct. 3

Kelly Pavlik and Paul Williams have agreed to fight on Oct. 3 in Atlantic City, N.J., ESPN.com is reporting.

The formal announcement reportedly will be made at a news conference Tuesday in New York.

Pavlik (35-1, 31 knockouts) will be making the third defense of his WBC and WBO middleweight titles, which he won by knocking out Jermain Taylor in 2007.

The Youngstown, Ohio, resident is coming off a ninth-round TKO over Marco Antonio Rubio in February. That followed his only loss, a one-sided decision to Bernard Hopkins in a light heavyweight bout last October.

Williams (37-1, 27 KOs) is coming off a sensational one-sided decision over Winky Wright in April. The Augusta, Ga., fighter has been campaigning anywhere from welterweight to middleweight in an effort to land big fights.

Pavlik is THE RING’s middleweight champion. Williams is rated No. 3 at middleweight and No. 1 at junior middleweight.
